Don’t Give Mold a Home

Mold. It’s a word no one ever wants to hear…especially in connection to your own home or business. Many types of mold aren’t bad—in fact, mold spores are everywhere, both indoors and outdoors and all around us in the air we breathe, they’re just invisible to the naked eye. However, the mold that grows as a result of a damp environment or due to leaking water in your home can not only damage your floors, walls, and possessions, but can also cause major health concerns. Most people are allergic to mold to some degree, with symptoms ranging from nasal congestion, throat irritation, coughing, wheezing, and eye irritation to more serious issues like lung infections. Some types of mold are even toxic.

It’s always a good idea to regularly check for mold in your home in any place that could become damp…usually in hidden away dark areas you may not see regularly: check for mold near water fixtures that may be leaking, inside closets and crawl spaces, and in basements and attics.  If you do notice a water leak, don’t wait to seek help. As time goes by, the greater the damage will be to your property.

If you suspect there may be mold in your home but are unable to see it, give us a call. We can do an inspection and if you do have mold, we can safely remove it from your home or business. We do NOT recommend removing mold by yourself. Mold spores can spread and you may end up with a bigger mold problem than you originally started with.

It’s also important to remember that the mold appeared where it did for a reason. Is there a water leak nearby? Proper ventilation? Be sure to address the source of the moisture in your home, whether by promptly fixing a leaking roof, window, or pipe; making sure your shower, laundry, and cooking vents are working promptly; or utilizing an air conditioner or dehumidifier to keep humidity below 50 percent in your home. In the dry climates of Wyoming and Colorado, humidity isn’t an issue, but sometimes New Mexico can become a bit more humid.

If you think you have mold, give us a call. We can minimize damage to your home and property. We provide inspections and estimates!
