Mold Cough

Beware of The Mold Monster!

Mold. It’s everywhere. Some, we see, but most is invisible to the naked eye. Mold sometimes goes by the alias name of Mildew. They are found indoors and outdoors in all climates, during all seasons, every year. The culprit of indoor mold and mildew growth is: Excess Moisture.

Molds reproduce by releasing tiny spores that float through the air until landing in other locations. When they settle on wet or moist surfaces, the spores can form new mold colonies. As the mold colony grows, it sends out millions of tiny airborne spores to grow on other parts of your home. Mold can attach itself to and grow on almost anything. No indoor space is completely free from mold spores – not even a surgical operating room.

Exposure to molds is virtually unavoidable. There are many different mold species that come in many different colors. Like a seed, a mold spore needs water and food to grow, but since it is a fungus, rather than a plant, it can thrive without any sunlight.

Though molds themselves are not toxic or poisonous, certain molds are toxigenic, meaning they can produce toxins (mycotoxins). Hazards presented by molds that may produce mycotoxins, such as Stachybotrys chartarum, need to be taken care of immediately.

Stachybotrys chartarum is a greenish-black mold. It can grow on material with high cellulose content, such as fiberboard, gypsum board, and paper. Constant moisture is required for its growth and occurs where there is water damage, water leaks, condensation, water infiltration, or flooding.  Some of the most dangerous varieties of mold found in homes are: Aspergillus, Basidiospore, Curvularia, Ascospore, Penicillium, Stachybotrys and Cladosporium. Not only are they dangerous, they are downright difficult to pronounce.

Research is ongoing on the damage mold can do to our health. But we do know this: mold can indeed cause heath issues especially for those with weakened immune systems. It is not necessary to determine what type of mold you may have growing in your home or other building, all molds should be treated the same with respect to potential health risks and removal. There is no time to waste.

A moisture leak in your home can provide the organic material that may become a food source for mold such as: water, wood, paper, dust and even….skin flakes. Molds fight to survive and to do their job. Their mission is this: Spread: Breakdown: DESTROY. Don’t let the mold monster get you. Molds are tough. Water Extraction Experts are tougher.  Call us.
