Water Damage in Your Home or Business-Part 1

Water damage in your home or business can be very problematic, but it’s also a danger to your health (mold growth) if water damage isn’t rapidly and correctly contained. Not only can water damage ruin your personal property, but it can also harm the foundation and structure of your home or business

Water Extraction Experts can help minimize the damage caused by flooding and get your home or business back to normal quickly.

Any space in your home or business is vulnerable to flooding, however, there are some areas where water damage is more likely to happen. For example, areas that have sinks, showers, bathtubs (kitchens, bathrooms, laundry rooms), or areas such as basements and crawlspaces that are lower-lying or sub-ground level.  Also, areas that have appliances are more prone to flooding (refrigerators, dishwashers and washing machines.) We also see a great deal of water damage in areas where the water heater is placed.

BATHROOMS

A bathroom is a very common area for flooding and water damage to occur. There are many sources of water– sinks, tubs/showers, toilets,– all in one place.

What causes flooding in bathrooms?

Clogged Pipes & Drains– Clogged Pipes and drains are the main culprits of floods in bathrooms. “We get a few calls every week with water damage in a bathroom due to pipes being clogged,” stated Matt Adlesperger, owner, and operator of Water Extraction Experts in Albuquerque and Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Equipment Failures – such as a broken toilet float can cause water to continuously fill  the toilet tank and flood the bathroom

Absent-Mindedness – “Water damage can also happen due to forgetfulness,” stated Doug Adlesperger, owner, and operator of Water Extraction Experts in Colorado and Wyoming. “Many people run water for a bath, start watching TV and forget the water is running.”

APPLIANCES

Water supply –The water supply line or pipe connected to your appliances can develop leaks. It is not uncommon for the water supply to the icemaker for a refrigerator/freezer to develop a leak.

Swamp Cooler – The swamp cooler is another appliance that can cause water damage to your roof, ceilings, and walls.

Overflowing and Equipment Malfunctions – We’ve seen water damage due to using the wrong kind of soap or too much soap in dishwashers and washing machines. Also, with dishwashers, the seals can be broken and cause flooding in the kitchen. Equipment malfunctions for both dishwashers and washing machines can cause water damage. It’s important to keep a close eye on your appliances.
